Employees and coaches

The Montreal Rowing Club (MRC) depends mainly on its volunteer members who share their time and experience to help develop the club. We also benefit from the help of some paid staff members and a crew of volunteer rowing coaches for the various programs.

Competitive coaches

Anne-Renée Thibault

Anne-Renee is the head coach at the Montreal Rowing Club since 2010. Previously technical coordinator in the Quebec Rowing Association (AQA), her professionalism and knowledge of the discipline make it one of the best coach in Canada. She has also coached the national rowing team adapted for the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008.

A graduate of the University of Montreal, her involvement in the development of rowing in Quebec is recognized and she will guide athletes to major sporting careers.

She oversees the competitive group at the Montreal Rowing Club.

Réjean Beauregard

Réjean Beauregard has extensive rowing and coaching experience. He was honoured by Rowing Canada in 2009 for his 40 years of commitment to the development of rowing at RCA's Annual General Meeting.

Formerly a rower and coach at the Laval Rowing Club, Rejean joined the Montreal Rowing Club in 2007. Rejean devotes most of his time to the development of the club and the initiation of young rowers into the sport.

Rejean will coach the Junior, sweep and sculling.

Masters coaches

Sophia Damianova

Sophia was the coxswain of the Bulgarian National team for many years in the 80s. Her athletic achievements speak for themselves. Sophia's crew rowed at several Olympic Games in the 80’s, and she participated at various World Championships.
Sophia currently works at the Bank of Montreal. During her free time, you will find her at the Olympic Basin where she works with our Masters members. Her goal this year is to have our athletes excel at the World Masters Championships in London, Ontario. Her experience and her skills are an absolute asset for the Masters athletes.
Sophia will coach the Masters Rowers, sweeping and sculling.

Asen Georgiev

Like Sophia Damianova, Asen Geogiev is a former Bulgarian citizen as well. Assen coached rowing in Bulgaria before moving to Canada. He holds a degree as Sports Instructor at the University of Sofia, Bulgaria.
Assen is currently Phys Ed teacher at a college in Montreal, his coaching skills are particularly appreciated by beginners and developing rowers.
Asen will coach recreational members, sweeping and sculling.

Recreational coaches

Chantal Lavigne

Chantal learnt about rowing at the Montreal Rowing Club. Former competitve rower, she quickly turned to coaching, and has obtained certification NCCP 3 in 2007.

Parallel translator, she has a thorough knowledge of rowing and her advice is especially appreciated by both young and older members.

She supervises the group of Recreational, sweep and scull.
