Rowing Equipment

The Montreal Rowing club has many types of boats; scull- and sweep-rigged.

Our oldest boats stem from the 1976 Olympics (Staempfli 4-,4+,4X). They are still used every day by our recreational crews. Our most recent boats were purchased last year (Levator single sculls 1X).

Some boats are for exclusive use of competitive and Master athletes while other boats can be used by a larger number of members. A newly installed Boat Assignment Committee (under the supervision of the Board) works with the Head Coach on assigning equipment to athletes. It will particularly look at two (or more) competitive parties requesting the same boat, and will consider special requests from other members of the club. In all cases, the Board (as the governing body of the club) has the final word.

Each year the club hopes to add to the fleet through the Neil Lewis Memorial Boat Purchase Fund.

Basic boat usage rules:

  • Competitive and Masters members have access to Competitive-quality equipment; boats are assigned by the Head Coach with the help of the Assignment Committee.

  • Recreational members will use the recreational fleet according to their skill level (Novice, Level I, II or III). Boat usage outside of the recreational fleet can be requested with the Board. The Board will seek advice from the Boat Assignment Committee and Head Coach in making a decision.

A full inventory of our boats and their usage will be pubished on this Web site.
