Independent Rower
Independent Rower is a special membership for those who:
- own their own boat (single scull);
- who are skilled enough to row on their own;
- and who do not require any supervision or coaching.
It is therefore only open to experienced rowers who own their own boat.
What do you get?
This membership includes access to the facilities, the basin, and your right to participate in club activities, as well as the storage of your single scull in the hangars, at a spot that the club will assign to you.
What do we ask?
Independent rowers ARE members of the Montreal Rowing Club: we do want you to participate in club activites, club development and to fulfill your volunteering duties.
Your safety and your rowing skills
As mentioned earlier: you need to be an experienced and skilled rower. And, as a member you will need to comply with club rules and safety regulations. This means, amongst others:
- You are required to have your own rowing accessories (incl. oars);
- You should have your our own safety equipment (life jacket or personal flotation device);
- Your boat should comply with the current safety standards;
- Independent rowers should have good enough rowing skills to allow for unsupervised rowing:
In case of doubt, we may ask you to participate in an evaluation. Depending on the observations, the club may advise you to row with a rowing buddy, or during supervised hours.
Storage of boats is a revocable service that we offer, given our space in the hangars. However, this space will be evaluated on an ongoing basis against the club's needs to store its own boats. In case of shortage of space, the Board of Directors will invite Independent Rowers to discuss rearrangement of the hangars and reassignment of spots.
