Learn To Row (LTR)
To sign up,
- fill out the registration form 2008
- fill out the AQA/RCA form 2008
(The 10$ fee is included in our course fee)
And fax it back (514-861-9626) or post it in the mail. You can also bring it by yourself; our office is open on Mon, Wed, Fri, between 4pm and 7pm.
You must also read and sign the Liability waiver, but this must be done at our office in the presence of our staff, before your first session starts.

Learn to Row classes are offered to anyone wanting to learn the basics of rowing, whether to eventually become members of the Montreal Rowing Club or just for the initial experience.
The Learn to Row program focuses on sculling techniques (rowing with 2 oars), rowing in beginner singles, and basic crew rowing elements. Each class will have up to 8 students and 2 coaches.
Requirements
- You must know how to swim.
- All fitness levels are welcome since the emphasis is on the overall experience.
Curriculum
The standard Learn-to-row course consists of 8 hours spread over 4 two-hour sessions. Most session are given on:
- 2 consecutive Monday-Wednesday sessions or,
- 2 consecutive Tuesday-Thursday sessions.
- We also offer a few Saturday-Sunday courses.
- Session 1 - Indoor session.
Focus on technique on the ergometers (indoor rowing equipment) and in the rowing tank. - Session 2 - Outdoor session.
Safety and circulation rules of the Olympic Basin. Teamwork and technique on the water. - Sessions 3 & 4 - Outdoor sessions.
Focus on rowing and technique in single and crew boats.
Courses begin in late April every week until the end of September. Classes start at 6:00pm unless specified otherwise.
Dress Code
Running shoes, shorts, t-shirt, and socks. On warm, sunny days, sunscreen, sunglasses and a bottle of water to stay hydrated. On cool, windy days, a sweatshirt and long pants would be ideal. Avoid loose fitting clothing as it may impede movement and can sometimes get caught in the equipment.
Weather Conditions
Outdoor sessions will be cancelled if the basin weather conditions are not favourable for rowing. Unfavourable conditions include thunderstorms, heavy rain and high winds. Call the Montreal Rowing Club to confirm if weather conditions are acceptable for rowing.
Fees*
- Learn-to-row (8 hours): $130.00*
- Private learn-to-row (4 hours): $130.00*
Pay at the office before class 1 (cheque or cash, no credit card).
Cancellation Policy: we accept course cancellations up to 1 day before the course. After, the course fee is non-refundable.

Private Learn To Row Course
For those of you who may have evening jobs or other commitments, you may take a private learn-to-row (4 hours total). (And, you may also take a private rowing lesson anytime later on to perfect your skills.)
