Since 1994, the Montreal Rowing Club has offered companies the opportunity to try their hands at something new and to take on the ultimate team sport: rowing.

After as few as 5 training sessions (average 6 to 8), the Club's corporate crews are ready to take on each other in a friendly regatta to see who will take home the league trophy.

reAs of 2006 , we open the League to corporate teams as well as individuals (21+) who are interested to join and to commit to the weekly practice sessions as a member of a rowing crew over an 6-8 week period.

About Crew Rowing

As you may have seen at the Olympic Games or during the famous Cambridge-Oxford Boat Race, rowing is synonymous with teamwork and team spirit.

In fact, rowing, whether practiced alone or in a crew, recreationally or competitively, is a sport filled with challenges that has something for everyone.

Your crew

your crewYour crew should consist of 8 to 9 rowers (9 persons are needed to row an Eight, incl. of the coxswain), mixed or unisex (and an ardent team of supporter, an essential element on the day of the regatta!).

With or without previous rowing experience, you'll learn the basic techniques of the sport, work in preparation for the corporate regatta and develop a team spirit previously unknown.

If you sign up as an individual you will be assigned to a crew.

Your coach

Montreal Rowing League CrewsYou will be coached by one of the Club's elite members or an experienced Club member from whom you will learn the secrets of the craft that is rowing.  Your coach will also share with you his/her first-hand experience of the pleasure and pain that is (competitive) rowing.

Training

In at least 5 training sessions, you will learn basic rowing technique. You will also be taught different racing strategies that will help you plot your own strategy, your plan of attack for the regatta.

Montreal Rowing League - trainingTraining sessions run Monday through Friday at night, and on Saturday during the day.

Select a night of the week that's good for everyone. Training sessions start between 5:30 PM and 6:30 PM but are flexible enough to be scheduled to meet your needs.

Due to the limited number of boats in our fleet, we must limit the number of crews that can train each night. Thus, priority is given to the crews that sign up first. The outdoor (on the water) season starts at the beginning of May, but early crews can start training indoors already.

The Challenge: Montreal Rowing League Regatta

Montreal Rowing League - regatta

The regatta is where you and your crew test your newly acquired skills. You will compete against other crews over a 500-metre distance on the Olympic Basin. Crews will face each other in elimination heats to determine who will make it to the finals.

Test your team spirit, your skills and enjoy the fun in surpassing yourselves…
