Recreational Membership

The recreational program is for those who enjoy rowing for fun whilst improving their condition and rowing skills. It is up to you to decide how often you wish to row, to determine your goals and see in which events you'd like to participate.

You can row as an individual, or you can team up with other members and row as a crew. You can participate in recreational regattas and other rowing events.

As a recreational member you will have access to our recreational fleet. We organize supervision and coaching for recreational members at specific times of the week.

Annual membership

As an annual recreational member, you can row as long as possible on the Olympic Basin, and you have year-round access to our indoor facilities.

Requirements

To join, you must have taken a Learn To Row course at our club, or have previous rowing experience. And of course, you must know how to swim.

Equipment and Facilities

As a rec Member, you are welcome to use the Club's recreational rowing equipment, the indoor tank, the training room and ergs. The Club has a fleet of recreational rowing equipment for individual and crew rowing.

Coaching

A coach will be present to address technique during supervised recreational hours (click here for schedule). Please note that one coach will share its time amongst many recreational members.

It's not just about rowing...!

Many recreational members enjoy their membership on an athletic as well as a social level: rec members are particularly active in Club life and Club development, and many rec members enjoy participating in boat maintenance, coaching and coxing, potluck gettogethers, club outings and last but not least...recreational regattas.

Rowing skill L evels and Training Schedule

The Montreal Rowing Club uses a level system in order to identify your rowing skills and assign you boat usage as well as supervised training accordingly. The level system helps us ensure that all rowers are having an enjoyable, and most important, safe time on the basin. The most important distinction is between Novice and more Experienced (level I, II and III) rowers

Novice recreational rowers are only allowed to row during the supervised recreational hours (click here for our schedule). You must show up on time: late arrivals will not be permitted on the water. You must call or e-mail in advance to reserve your equipment. Other rules will be explained once you sign up as a member.

Experienced recreational rowers are allowed on the water anytime on any day, as long as other rec rowers are on the water too (we call this the "buddy system"). In order to qualify for the buddy system, you must pass a rowing skill test with our Head Coach.

And of course, experienced rec members are welcome to come at supervised hours too, to row with other rec members (crew nights), or to have their individual technique "looked at" by our coaches. It's up to you!

Level II Experienced rec rowers can enjoy acces to the most recent boats in the rec fleet, including our recently purchased single sculls.

All rec rowers need to reserve their equipment in advance :
All recreational rowers (individuals and crews) must call or e-mail in advance to reserve equipment.

Odawagan Rowing Club (Social Club)

Odawagan is an inclusive gay and lesbian rowing club. All Odawagan members are member of the Montreal Rowing Club. Odawagan is preparing for Rendez-vous Montreal 2006 Outgames, an international GLTB event that will be hosting many athletic disciplines, including rowing.

Volunteering

As a member of the club, you will be required to fulfill some volunteer tasks. This being a non-profit organization, we depend very much on the support of our members.  A club is only ever as good as the sum of its members!
