Equipment

The Montreal Rowing Club has many types of rowing shells, sweep and sculling, for our competitive, masters and recreational members.

Some of our rowing shells are specifically reserved for our competitive athletes, but we still have many shells which are available for rowers of all levels.

Our oldest shells, which are still in use, date back to the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games (Staempfli 4-, 4+ and 4X). Our younger boats were bought last year (shells 2-/2X Hudson). Every year, we try to renew and grow our fleet by investing in new euqipment. Some of our boats can be paid out of club revenue, for othe investments we need to rely on sponsors and donors to help us acquire the necessary equipment.

Rules for using the Shells

Coaches from their respective programs are responsible for the allocation of the shells. Members must consult with their coach prior to using any shell.

  • Competitive and Masters members have access to (Class A & B) competitive shells. The actual assignment of shells to the athletes and crews is done by the Head Coaches and Program Coaches.
  • Recreational members will use the recreational shells (C). The actual assignment depends on the rowing skill level (novice, level I, II or III). A special request must be made to the coach in order to use a competitive shell (Class B).
